Week 3 Recap: Dominant Pitching and A Splash of Rain

The third week of the season brought a mix of dominant pitching, offensive explosions, and a defensive masterclass in our Game of the Week. While the weather mostly cooperated, one marquee matchup between the Connaught Meralomas and Richmond Rays has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Here is how the action unfolded across the Lower Mainland:

Game of the Week: Surrey Rebels vs. Langley Hounds

Final Score: Langley Hounds 4, Surrey Rebels 2

In a tightly contested battle that lived up to the hype, the Langley Hounds edged out the Surrey Rebels in a pitcher’s duel. Langley’s Josh Anderson was the story of the night, tossing a complete game with a staggering 14 strikeouts, allowing only 4 hits.

The Hounds’ offense did just enough to support Anderson, led by Mitchell Armstrong, Kevin Copland and Josh Andersen, who both collected multi-hit games. The Rebels showed life late with a triple from Kelly Singel and a double from Bryan Yiu, but they couldn’t overcome Langley’s defensive consistency.

Game Recaps

Richmond Athletics vs. Steveston Canadians

Final: Athletics 8, Canadians 0 The Athletics put on a clinical performance on Tuesday night. Darren Strang and Colyn Marcile combined for a 5-inning shutout, surrenderring only 4 hits. Offensively, the Athletics were paced by Charlie Morrison and Mike Tyacke, who both hammered home runs to put the game out of reach early.

Richmond Rays vs. Connaught Meralomas

Final: Rays 9, Meralomas 4 The Rays utilized a high-powered offense to secure a comfortable win. Jonah Pipke did double duty, earning the win on the mound with 5 strikeouts while also contributing 2 hits and 2 RBIs at the plate. Despite a valiant effort from the Meralomas’ Carlos Garcia (2B, 2 RBIs), the Rays’ 8 hits proved too much to handle.

Connaught Jazz vs. Connaught Rangers

Final: Jazz 5, Rangers 5 (Draw) In a rare intra-club stalemate, the Jazz and Rangers fought to a 5-5 draw. The Jazz saw a power surge from Aaron Hately, who went 2-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a double. The Rangers answered back with steady hitting from Sean Michael and Steve Pike. Both teams showcased depth, but neither could find the winning run before the final horn.

Connaught Jazz vs. Vancouver Lomas

Final: Lomas 10, Jazz 1 The Lomas offense exploded for 10 runs on Wednesday. Clint Taylor led the charge with a home run and 4 RBIs, while Nick Fry and Dylan Dahl each contributed multi-hit efforts. Craig Pidcock earned the win, keeping the Jazz bats quiet with 7 strikeouts over 3.1 innings.

Ladner Masters vs. Vancouver Lomas

Final: Lomas 9, Masters 0 The Vancouver Lomas continued their dominant week with a Thursday night shutout. Derek Mayson was untouchable on the rubber, throwing 4.1 innings of no-hit ball with 9 strikeouts. Mayson helped his own cause at the plate with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, while Clint Taylor stayed hot with another 2 hits and 4 RBIs.
