It was a wild Opening Week at the diamonds in the LMFL, from shutouts to high-scoring slugfests that came down to the final frame. Here is a breakdown of the recent action:
Rebels Run Wild Over Rangers
The Surrey Rebels put on an offensive clinic, dismantling the Connaught Rangers 11-1. The Rebels’ bats were hot from the jump, racking up 15 hits. Jason Buhr, Andrew Piechnik, and Isaac Goodwill each recorded multi-hit games to lead the charge.
On the mound, Rene D’Entremont was nothing short of spectacular. He tossed a complete 6.0-inning gem, allowing only 4 hits and racking up a staggering 15 strikeouts to secure the win.
Martyniuk Tosses No-Hitter for Masters
In the most dominant pitching performance of the week, Miles Martyniuk led the Ladner Masters to a 7-0 victory over the Connaught Jazz. Martyniuk was untouchable, throwing a 6-inning no-hitter while fanning 12 batters.
Offensively, the Masters were sparked by Russ Gray and Cam Gray, who combined for four hits and two RBIs to provide more than enough cushion for Martyniuk’s historic night.
Lomas Edge Canadians in High-Scoring Affair
The Vancouver Lomas and Steveston Canadians traded blows in a back-and-forth battle that ended in a 7-7 draw.
Derek Mayson was the hero for Vancouver, going 3-for-3 with a massive home run and 4 RBIs. The Canadians countered with a strong performance from Brad Miller and Yoshi Hikida, but the Lomas’ relief pitching from Mayson (4 SO in 2.0 IP) helped stem the tide.
Rays Outshine Athletics
The Richmond Rays took down the Richmond Athletics 5-2 in a cross-town rivalry matchup. The Rays used a balanced attack, highlighted by home runs from Brett Shubrook and Cordell Fauht.
Pitchers Evan Willis and Jonah Pipke combined to allow only 4 hits and zero earned runs, effectively neutralizing the Athletics’ lineup. Merrick Roberts provided the lone bright spot for the Athletics with a two-run homer.
Hounds Hold On Against Meralomas
In a nail-biter at the dog park, the Langley Hounds edged out the Connaught Meralomas with a 4-3 victory. It was a classic “pitcher’s duel” atmosphere where every run mattered. Josh Anderson earned the hard-fought win on the mound, keeping the Meralomas’ bats in check just long enough for the Hounds to seal the one-run victory.
