Weekly Game Recap
Tuesday: Shutouts, Slit Wins, and a Dramatic Draw
The week kicked off with a packed Tuesday night schedule that featured plenty of drama across the region.
- Connaught Rangers 9, Vancouver Lomas 6
The Rangers outlasted the Lomas in a high-scoring thriller. Travis Hedberg anchored the team from the rubber to pick up the win, while Jordan Stevens and Jack Bilodeau set the tempo for the offence, both picking up a pair of hits and crossing the plate twice. The Lomas put up a fierce fight, powered by an explosive night from Nick Fry, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and a home run, but the Rangers’ balanced attack ultimately carried the day. - Richmond Rays 2, Ladner Masters 1
A classic, old-school pitcher’s duel went the way of the Rays in a nail-biter. Evan Willis earned the victory after throwing 4 scoreless frames, with Jonah Pipke stepping in to close the door. The Masters’ Rob Johnston threw an absolute gem of a complete game, scattering just 5 hits and allowing 2 earned runs, but was stuck with a tough-luck loss due to lack of run support. - Langley Hounds 5, Steveston Canadians 5 (Tie)
In a thrilling, back-and-forth battle that couldn’t be settled by the final whistle, the Hounds and Canadians fought to a 5-5 draw. Steveston actually out-hit Langley 10 to 5 on the night—led by a spectacular 4-hit performance from Matt Deutsch—but Sean Greenlay dug deep on the mound for Langley, holding the Canadians to 4 earned runs over a gritty, complete-game 7 innings to rescue the tie. - Connaught Jazz 4, Connaught Meralomas 0
Austin Gooden put on an absolute masterclass for the Jazz, spinning a flawless complete-game shutout. Gooden completely stymied the Meralomas’ bats, surrendering a meager 2 hits while racking up a jaw-dropping 15 strikeouts over 5 innings of total dominance.
Wednesday: Mayson Shuts Down the Athletics GAME OF THE WEEK
With only one game on the Wednesday card, the Vancouver Lomas made sure to maximize their time on the field and bounce back from their Tuesday disappointment.
- Vancouver Lomas 4, Richmond Athletics 1
Derek Mayson put the team on his back in a dominant, complete-game performance on the rubber. Mayson baffled Richmond hitters all night, giving up just 2 hits and a single unearned run while striking out 11. Proving he can do it all, he also helped his own cause at the dish, going 2-for-2 with a clutch RBI.
Thursday: Shutouts and Slugging
The week wrapped up on Thursday night with teams looking to make a statement heading into the weekend.
- Richmond Rays 9, Ladner Masters 0
The Rays left absolutely no room for doubt in their second matchup of the week against the Masters. Jonah Pipke was spectacular, dealing a 5-inning shutout while allowing only 2 hits and punching out 6. Offensively, Cordell Fausht spearheaded the attack, going 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. - Steveston Canadians 5, Connaught Rangers 2
Brad Miller turned in a brilliant complete-game victory for Steveston, striking out 8 and limiting a dangerous Rangers lineup to just 2 runs. Brendon Creyke paced the Canadians’ offense by driving in a pair of runs to secure the hard-fought win over Cuco Reyes and the Rangers. - Surrey Rebels 2, Connaught Jazz 0
The Rebels squeaked out a tight, defensive shutout victory. Raily Singal started the game with 2 strong frames before turning the ball over to Rene D’Entremont, who completely shut the door with 4 stellar innings of relief, striking out 7. The Jazz pitching staff put up an admirable fight, striking out 14 Rebels, but their bats simply couldn’t find the breakthrough run. - Richmond Athletics 8, Langley Hounds 3
The Athletics closed out the weekly schedule by flexing some serious muscle against the Hounds. Darren Strang earned the win on the mound, keeping Langley’s hitters off-balance. The story of the night, however, was Bryan Abery, who exploded at the plate for Richmond, going a perfect 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs to fuel the offensive onslaught.
