The annual Vancouver Icebreaker Tournament made a strong return this past Easter weekend at Connaught Park, welcoming teams from across British Columbia to kick off the fastpitch season. With great weather and high-energy competition throughout the weekend, the tournament proved to be a memorable start to 2025.
Dominance from the Lomas – A Side Champions
Lomas were nearly untouchable on their path to the A Side Championship, capping off the weekend with a commanding 10-0 win over the Canadians in the final.
Lomas outscored their opponents 40-5 across five games, showing strong offensive and defensive performances.
Pitcher Derek Mayson sealed the deal in the final, tossing a 3-hit shutout to secure the championship and make a clear statement for the season ahead.
Banner’s Backdoor Brilliance – B Side Champions
On the B side, the Hawks clinched the title behind a remarkable performance from pitcher Ryan Banner.
Banner delivered three shutouts on Sunday alone, including the final, where he once again dominated to help the Hawks lift the trophy.
With such electric performances so early in the season, the Icebreaker set the tone for what promises to be an exciting year of fastpitch across the Lower Mainland.
